Picturesque Carmel-by-the-Sea is America's most dog friendly city in most every way. Seems every other store has a water dish out and every third restaurant has a dog friendly dining patio. The city beach is dog friendly and leash free and there are so many great hotels and inns that accept pets with no weight limits. The beauty of the coastline between Carmel and Big Sur is unsurpassed. The only tarnish in this jewel is most all of the inns and hotels do not allow well behaved dogs to be left alone in the rooms. This is not the issue it would be if there weren't so many pet friendly shops and restaurants and most hotels do have sitters to recommend.
