Best Luxury Pet Friendly Hotel Chain

Kimpton Hotels

Website: Kimpton Hotels
Phone: 800-546-7866
Pet Fee: None
Weight Limit: None

Lana's Review: At Kimpton it's not "pets are people too", it's "pets rule." Unlike in many other hotels, Lana can relax in the room by herself while her people go to one of the fabulous restaurants within the hotels or shopping or whatever. If she gets into a little barking, the hotel can arrange for company for her. Kimpton even provides its employees health insurance for their pets. How civilized.

All of Kimpton's 40 boutique hotels are pet friendly and are in the very best locations. Unfortunately for pet travelers, they are only in 15 cities, but they are all top destinations--San Diego, Aspen, San Francisco, etc.

Housekeeping services for rooms with pets require pet owner be present or pet must be crated. Lana loves their consistent pet policy, no fees and availability of non-smoking rooms. Pets are usually allowed in the room alone in a crate or carrier if they do not disturb other guests.

Best Super Budget Pet Friendly Hotel Chain

Red Roof Inn

Wesite: Red Roof Inn
Phone: 800-733-7663
Pet Fee: Most Have No Fee
Weight Limit: Usually No Weight Limit
Other: 1 Family Pet Per Room

Lana's Review: All 350 Red Roof Inns accept family pets. There is usually no fee or set weight limits. Pets are not allowed unattended in rooms. Technically, the hotels only allow one pet per room, but Red Roof staff understands the needs of pet show people and others with multiple pets, and many will try to work out a suitable arrangement. Many Red Roof Inns have recently been very nicely remodeled. See newly remodeled locations. Lana has checked some out and stayed in the New London Red Roof Inn summer 2008 and loved them. Everything was new, free high speed wireless internet, lots of green space, a great value.

Honorable Mention:

Weight Limit: None (a few locations have a 6o pound limit)

Lana's Review: Motel 6 hotels are generally the most economical of the pet friendly chains and all accept pets (unless prohibited by law). They're a favorite during many dog show events. Lana's stayed at one in California and saw practically the whole show on her morning walk. Fun. The rooms are very basic, but you can't beat the price.

Other Pet Friendly Hotel Chains

Best Western

Website: Best Western
Phone: 800-780-7234
Pet Fee: Varies. Most under $50 per stay
Weight Limit: Varies

Lana's Review: Best Western hotels are not centrally owned, so the pet policies vary. 1,900 Best Western Hotels do accept pets. They have an easy pet friendly search. Just click on the link above enter your data and the pet friendly hotels will come up. To get the pet policy just click on the blue "pet policy" by the hotel and it appears. Lana's only beef with Best Western is that in the past many have told her only smoking rooms. She has seen some improvement recently in the number of hotels offering non-smoking pet friendly rooms.

Choice Hotels International

Website: Choice Hotels International
Phone: 877-424-6423
Pet Fee: Varies. Usually $25 per stay
Weight Limit: Varies

Choice Hotels International include: Comfort Inn, Quality Inn, Sleep Inn, Econo Lodge, Rodeway Inn, Mainstay, Clarion, Surburban

Lana's Review: 2,500 of the Choice Hotels accept pets. The link above takes you to the Choice Hotels Pet Friendly Search Page which is much easier to navigate than many of the hotel chains pet friendly search options. Just key in you location and dates and a list of pet friendly hotels pop up. Be careful though, non pet friendly hotels are listed below the pet friendly ones and you might not notice if you scroll down fast that you're out of the pet friendly section. The pet friendly hotels have a paw print on the left. The pet fee and weight limit are not listed on the hotel list. You need to click on the hotel name that comes up on a city search and when the hotel page comes up scroll down to the bottom, the pet fee is listed in red. The site now lists smoking and non-smoking rooms available.

Lana has generally had a fine reception at Choice Hotels with only an occasional exception. A good thing is they're reasonably priced and Lana loves the Choice Rewards program where she can earn free hotel stays.

Days Inn

Website: Days Inn
Phone: 800-329-7466
Pet Fee: Varies. Most $10
Weight Limit: Varies

Lana's Review: Most Days Inns are pet friendly and the fees are usually very reasonable. They are not centrally owned so policies vary. A "Pet's Allowed" box is available under the advanced search option on their home page. Again, it's hard to find the individual hotels' pet policies. Many show if you click on the individual hotel and then scroll through the "Hotel Features." Lana recommends calling if it's not clear. Some hotels limit pets to smoking rooms, be sure to check. They are part of the Wyndham Hotel Group. Lana's separated them out here because so many are pet friendly.

Website: Extended Stay Hotels
Phone: 800-804-3724
Pet Fees: $25 per day per pet - Maximum of $150 per stay

Other: 1 pet per room*

Lana's Review: All Extended Stay Hotels accept pets. The $25 dollar per day fee maxes at $150 so there's no additional fee after your 6th day. They are a fair choice if you're staying a while as they do offer kitchens and laundry facilities. Lana also likes their consistent pet policies. Lana has stayed in a few of these hotels and in some the furnishings were a bit worn. She recommends asking when the rooms where last updated.

*Hotels often take more than 1 pet but you will need to get prior approval from the Hotel Manager of the property where you will be staying.

All Inter-Continental Group Hotels (Holiday Inn, Staybridge, etc) that are pet friendly should show up in addition to the Inter-Continental. Lana's Review: Most of the regular Marriotts do not accept pets but some very nice locations do, such as the San Diego Marriott Hotel and Marina. Most of the Residence Inns and Towne Place Suites accept pets. The $75 - $100 pet fees are pricey.

The Marriott website has a Pets Welcome search option but it's not obvious. Click on the Marriott logo or website above which goes to a reservation page. Key in your destination and dates and hit enter. All hotels for your requested destination will appear as will the locations on a map (nice). On the left side of the page under "Filter Your Search" is a "Pet's Welcome" box. Click that and hit enter. You should then get a listing of just pet friendly locations. To get the pet policy, click the hotel you're interest in. Then click "About This Hotel". The page that appears has the "Pet Policy" about 2/3 of the way down. Lana's Review: Several Ritz-Carlton Hotels accept pets. Clicking on the logo above will take you to a page that allows a search for their pet friendly locations. The fees however are very very pricey and aren't easy to find on the website. Lana suggests calling. Lana says if you have money to burn, and love the Ritz, go for it.

Phone: 888-897-0202
Pet Fee: $10 per day (max $50/stay)
Weight Limit: None (a few locations have a 6o pound limit)
Other: 1 Pet Per Room

Lana's Review: Studio 6 offers suite rooms with kitchens for extended stays and is generally the most economical of the extended stay hotel chains. It's owned by the same company as Motel 6 and the room quality is similar. You can usually request a non-smoking room at both and most locations accept pets (unless prohibited by law).

This is great for pet travelers because you can find several pet friendly choices with one search. The website link above takes you to a reservation page for all the Wyndham Hotels. A "Pets Welcome" box is on the left side under "Your Hotel Requirements". Click that and hit enter and a list of pet friendly hotels appears. Click the name or picture of the hotel your interested in and under "Hotel Features" you should see the hotel's pet policy.

Pet fees are non-refundable unless otherwise stated. Pet policies are subject to change without notice. Always confirm pet policy ahead with the hotel directly.
